Glass Blasting
A fully automatic, custom-built glass blasting machine for controlled and repeatable surface treatment of precision components.
Controlled and repeatable
Automatic glass bead blasting
Brüsch operates a fully automatic glass blasting machine, custom-built for controlled and repeatable surface treatment of precision components. The process uses glass beads as the blasting media, delivering a consistent, uniform surface texture across each batch.
Components are loaded and unloaded manually, ensuring individual handling and process control for each part. There is no handheld blasting, which would introduce variation. Typical component sizes processed are approximately Ø20 mm diameter and 30 mm length, reflecting the primary application in precision MedTech tooling.
Hygienic surfaces
Glass blasting is applied primarily to orthopaedic surgical tools and MedTech components. The glass bead process creates a controlled micro-texture on the component surface that reduces the risk of bacteria settling into surface crevices, a critical consideration for surgical instruments used in clinical environments.
Coating pre-treatment
The process is also used as a pre-treatment for components that subsequently receive a surface coating, ensuring optimal adhesion between the base material and the coating layer.
Cosmetic finishing
Additional applications include cosmetic finishing where a uniform matte appearance is required.
